In Asia, chat apps are more mature and they seem to have figured out one important thing. How to monitize. What does that mean for the rest of us? It means that using chat apps for marketing is probably just around the corner for the rest of the world.
Tech Crunch, one of my favorite sites to keep up with posted this excellent article, “Here’s How Chat Apps Are Becoming As Important As Social Media For Brands” written by Jon Russell @jonrussell.
Jon says that chat apps “will become the new social media in 2015.” He goes on to use a recent promotion by Sir Paul McCartney and Kanye West and how they used social media. Honestly, even if the article didn’t point out how they used Line, the hot chat app from Japan with over 500 million registered users and 170 million monthly active users, it’s work a read.
Jon does a nice job showing the Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Line results. While I don’t image most of my readers can afford an Official Account on Line ( seems like they cost a lot of Yen), this is a trend to keep an eye on.
